Prince’s Family Files Wrongful Death Suits

The talented singer, songwriter, and musician Prince dealt with pain issues for some time, but his sudden death still shocked his family, fans, and the music industry at large. Now that Carver County Minnesota has completed its investigation into his death and concluded that there was not enough evidence to bring any criminal charges, Prince’s family recently filed two wrongful death suits.

Hospital Lawsuit

The first wrongful death suit filed against Trinity Medical Center in Moline, Illinois alleges medical malpractice. The hospital treated Prince for an overdose a week before he died at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The lawsuit alleges that the hospital didn’t do enough to investigate the actual ingredients of the pill after hospital staff identified it as hydrocodone.

The announcement of the lawsuits in Rolling Stone stated that medical investigators later discovered that the pill was counterfeit and was actually fentanyl. If the hospital had done in-depth testing of the medicine, it is likely that they would have found out that information.

Charges Against a Major Pharmacy

The pharmacy Walgreens also had a wrongful death lawsuit filed against it. Prince had prescriptions filled from two Minnesota locations of the nationwide chain. The suit alleges that the medical purpose for dispensing the pills was not a legitimate one.

Finding Justice

Even though these lawsuits will not bring Prince back, his family hopes that justice will be served. They hope to expose information that can help families in similar situations. Opioid addiction is running rampant in America, and cases of medical malpractice in cases of this type of addiction are especially fatal.
