Johnsonville Recalls Over 600,000 Contaminated Sausages

The summer is fast approaching, and many people are looking forward to dusting off their grills and having a barbecue. What could be more tantalizing than a juicy, perfectly-grilled jalapeno sausage filled with… pieces of sharp plastic?

Johnsonville, LLC has issued a recall of over 100,000 pounds of smoked pork-and-jalapeno sausages. The company says that these products may be contaminated with small bits of plastic. The company issued its recall just yesterday in the hopes of warning consumers before they ingest the contaminated sausages.

The details of the recall

The massive recall encompasses over 600,000 sausages that were shipped nationwide. Specifically, Johnsonville’s 14-oz. packages of six “Jalapeno Cheddar Smoked Sausage” with a sell-by date of April 4, 2018. The ID numbers of the compromised batches are 1001124486 and 1001124487. The USDA labeled these packages with “EST. 34224.”

Biting into a surprise

The contamination came to Johnsonville’s attention after receiving three complaints. Consumers contacted the company to inform them that they had found pieces of hard, green plastic in the sausages. Fortunately, none of the consumers were injured or experienced illness. So far, there have not been any reported injuries.

What to do if affected

If you believe that you may have eaten the contaminated sausages, pursue medical attention immediately. Consumers who wish to make a complaint or receive compensation may wish to contact Johnsonville Consumer Relations or a product liability attorney.

If you have purchased any packages of these sausages, do not ingest them. Throw them away or return them to the store from which you bought them. If you see any of these packages in your local store, inform store management immediately.
